Plenty of Liverpool fans were disappointed when Harry Kane was appointed England captain for the World Cup over Jordan Henderson.

The Reds skipper had an impressive season by guiding the team to a top-four finish and the Champions League final, which they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kiev last month.

Henderson has had his critics from within the Liverpool fanbase, but towards the end of the 2018-19 campaign, he consistently delivered.

Despite this, England manager Gareth Southgate opted to give the captain's armband to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane for the duration of Russia 2018.

It was a disappointing blow for Henderson, who had shared the captaincy role with Kane prior to the tournament.

Attention then turned to whether the midfielder would even start for the Three Lions as Southgate planned to use Henderson or Eric Dier.

The manager's decision to play Kyle Walker as part of a back three means that there is no need for both midfielders to be on the pitch.

According to The Times, Henderson is expected to be given the nod for Monday's Group G match against Tunisia.

Liverpool fans have been tweeting their reactions.
