Liverpool’s 6-1 win on the weekend took them to the top of the Premier League table for the first time since May 2014.
Back then, the Reds were closing in on, what they hoped, would be first ever Premier League title. And although it all went wrong during the closing weeks of the campaign, that team led by Brendan Rodgers is widely thought of as the best, for some fans, in living memory.
Spearheaded by Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool netted over 100 times in league action, while Steven Gerrard enjoyed an Indian summer in the holding midfield role and Raheem Sterling rose to become one of the finest English talents of his generation.
However, a debate has been stirring among Kopites of late: is this current side better than the one of 2013/14?
Liverpool are indeed better off in terms of points and goals after 11 games than they were three years ago, hile their current scoring rate puts them on track to beat the haul of their runner-up campaign.
Interestingly, their defensive record is slightly better too, with Jurgen Klopp’s men due to ship 48 over the season based on the current rate – opposed to the 50 they conceded under Rodgers.
So, 2013/14 vs. 2016/17: which Liverpool team is better? Let us know by voting on our exclusive poll below and we’ll announce the results later this week. Stay tuned!
