Jordan Henderson will miss this Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield as he is suspended following the sending off he received against Watford last time out.

However, even if available, it is somewhat doubtful that the Reds’ club captain would have been included in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI anyway.

The 28-year-old’s importance at Liverpool certainly seems to be waning. The more established the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho become in the team, the more likely Henderson is to be left out. On top of that, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return from injury could push the 48-cap England man even further down the pecking order.

Henderson could still have a career at Liverpool, but he’s likely to become more and more a squad rotation option with each passing year. In what ought to be his prime playing years, the Sunderland-born midfielder needs to be playing week in, week out, especially if he wants to maintain his involvement in Gareth Southgate’s England setup.

What do you think, Liverpool fans, does Henderson have a future as a first team regular at Anfield or will he have to go elsewhere to be a regular starter?
