Liverpool spent big money in the summer transfer window in order to improve the quality in Jurgen Klopp's squad and to close the gap on Manchester City, and it seems to have been successful.

Although the Reds haven't been in quite as scintillating form as they were during the last campaign, the Merseyside outfit have picked up 36 points from 14 games and are still unbeaten in the Premier League.

However, Klopp has actually been cautious with the use of his two midfield signings, and Liverpool fans have been critical of his team selection, especially after the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, where James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum started in midfield.

In the win against Merseyside rivals Everton on the weekend though Fabinho replaced the suspended Henderson and started alongside Wijnaldum, who has had a strong start to the season after his place was threatened.

However, it was Naby Keita's introduction off the bench for Xherdan Shaqiri in the 71st minute that brought an injection of energy to a tiring Liverpool side, and the 23-year-old should now surely be considered for a starting spot ahead of Wijnaldum for the trip to Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Klopp is clearly desperate to ease the new signings in, but the derby proved it is high time that both Fabinho and Keita take a front seat.
