Barcelona are considering a shock move for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as a replacement for wantaway Jasper Cillessen according to Spanish news outlet Marca, as cited in The Sun.
The 30-year-old was for a long time the undisputed Liverpool no.1 following his move from Sunderland in 2013, but lost his spot last season to Loris Karius.
Now with the record arrival of Alisson, the Belgian goalkeeper is even further down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.
Barcelona’s substitute goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is being linked with a move away from the club and Ernesto Valverde will be keen for a backup to Marc-André ter Stegen, and Mignolet is the surprising name in the hat.
With Alisson now relegating Loris Karius to the bench, there’s no need for Mignolet to hang about at Anfield.
It would be a wise move for both the club and the player if they part ways and if Barcelona are mad enough to want Mignolet then Liverpool should shake their hand off.
Liverpool have had two error-prone goalkeepers on their hands for too long and now it’s time to let one of them go.
