Italian giants eyeing Liverpool fans’ favourite (not Lucas)

Roma are plotting a surprise move for Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho, according to reports from Calciomercato.

The Frenchman arrived at Anfield in 2013 from Paris Saint-Germain, but has been unable to make himself a regular under Brendan Rodgers due to a series of injury set-backs.

Despite this he’s won over a large section of the Reds’ fanbase with his physicality and willingness to step forward from defence, and many Kopites were annoyed to see him dropped for the club’s Premier League opener against Stoke on Sunday after an impressive pre-season.

And now it’s emerged that Roma are looking at him as Stadio Olimpico chief Rudi Garcia plots to bolster his reargaurd.

It appears unlikely that Liverpool will offload the 25-year-old so late into the transfer window, especially as he’s the immediate back-up option to Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel.
