Andrew Robertson has launched an impassioned defence of Mohamed Salah after the Egypt international was again accused of diving.

The forward won a penalty against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend - the third game in recent weeks that he has won a spot-kick  - as the Reds won 1-0, leading to howls of derision from rival fans.

What's the word?

Salah has won three penalties in his last four Premier League games, first against Arsenal, and then versus Newcastle, before his tumble against Brighton.

The latest saw Salah hit the deck after a tug from Pascal Gross in the area.

There were doubts over the validity of his fall, but Robertson insists that his team-mate is merely consistently fouled in the area, and refutes any suggestion that he goes down too easily.

Per the Daily Mirror, he said: "Every time it happens, we go back, everyone looks at the video, and you go, ‘well, it’s not a dive’.

"He is not that sort of player, so how many times is it going to happen?

"I was at the edge of the box (against Brighton) and it was a stonewaller.

"If people are starting to say Mo has gone down easily, it’s not fair.

"The one against Arsenal, especially, he got clipped three times. They still appealed. It’s a bit of desperation."

Clever play

Salah is absolutely entitled to go to ground.

The Egypt international is such a good dribbler of the ball that he regularly draws crowds of defenders to him.

And, if he is subsequently clipped, he has every right to hit the deck.

Liverpool are trying to win the Premier League title and they must take every marginal gain they can.

Salah going down won the club more than just a penalty at the weekend; it won the Reds three points, as they huffed and puffed against a resolute Brighton side.

Fans of the Seagulls were left raging on Twitter - one even called the fall a "disgrace" - but there can be no denying that it ultimately worked out for the Reds.

Their lead at the top of the table is intact, and Robertson is right - fans calling Salah a cheat are merely resorting to desperation tactics as they seek a different champion to the Reds.
