Loris Karius' Liverpool career never really went as planned.

When he signed from Mainz in 2016, there was every chance he could have become the club's number one goalkeeper. After all, Simon Mignolet was not exactly popular with portions of the club's fanbase due to several mistakes he himself made, and with Jurgen Klopp having chosen to take him to Anfield, there was hope that he could solve this goalkeeping issue.

No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?

However, he never looked comfortable between the sticks for the Reds. The Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev epitomised his stay on Merseyside - as Liverpool were defeated 3-1, the 26-year-old was at fault for two of the strikes.

He has since been sent out on loan to Besiktas - but according to James Pearce of The Athletic, he will soon be on his way back to Liverpool. There is a £7.25m purchase option if the Turkish club want to sign him after the end of his two-year loan spell at the club, but the Super Lig outfit do not want to take him permanently.

The Liverpool supporters have been reacting to the news, and you can tell they are not too happy with the update.

Clearly, they have not forgiven him for that night in Ukraine.

Others, though, are not totally against the idea of him returning to the squad.

There have been reports that current number two Adrian could indeed return to his homeland. Whether Karius is the man to take over from the 33-year-old is another matter, though.

Meanwhile, Liverpool scout this 23-year-old with 10 goals in 21 games this season.
