Liverpool are reportedly one of a number of clubs chasing Rennes winger Ismaïla Sarr, and Jurgen Klopp could transform the youngster just like he did with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund.

What's the story?

According to Football Whispers, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan are all chasing the 20-year-old speedster.

Sarr has filled the void left by Ousmane Dembele at Rennes, and possesses a similar ability to skip past players in the blink of an eye.

Liverpool have been slowly but surely building a squad capable of challenging Manchester City, and signing Sarr could be another shrewd move.

The next Aubameyang?

There’s absolutely no doubt what Sarr’s biggest strength is, as the youngster can dominate any defender in a one-on-one situation. He averaged 3.1 successful take-ons per 90 minutes last season, and has continued that form this season averaging 3.0.

This ability to ghost past defenders in either direction is similar to Sadio Mane, who is just as happy to breeze down the line onto his left foot as he is to cut back inside onto his right.

While Sarr doesn’t possess the finishing ability of Mane yet, he is only 20 so there is plenty of time to improve. He has shown glimpses of becoming a lethal goalscorer, including one of the goals of the season in a recent Europa League clash, and Klopp is the perfect manager to bring more of that out of him.

Aubameyang was a very similar player during his early career in France, showing fantastic skill and pace on the wing but very rarely finding the net. This changed when he moved to Dortmund. Klopp converted him to a central position, where he has since scored 155 goals for Dortmund and Arsenal.

Sarr has scored two Ligue 1 goals already this season, can play on either wing, has absolutely electric pace, and still has loads of room to improve. His lanky stature, speed and raw skill are reminiscent of a young Aubameyang, and Klopp could deploy him anywhere across the front three.
