Liverpool icon John Barnes believes that the players and fans of the club have as much responsibility as the players and new manager Jurgen Klopp in changing the team’s fortunes.
The German boss has now overseen seven games at the helm of the Reds since replacing Brendan Rodgers and suffered his only defeat last weekend at the hands of Crystal Palace.
The nature of Scott Dann’s winner – which came from some sloppy defending from a corner with around 10 minutes to play – disappointed many supporters, with large quantities opting to leave Anfield altogether with time remaining on the clock.
Klopp himself made reference to this after the match, and although he assumed responsibility on his and his players’ parts for not giving fans reason to get on board, he hinted that those on the pitch were, perhaps, effected by the exodus.
And speaking to Football FanCast, TitanBet brand ambassador and Merseyside hero Barnes backed the German, claiming that Kopites and the XI on the pitch have as much responsibility as everyone else involved in helping the club to improve:
“We have to get away from this whole idea that Klopp is going to change Liverpool.” He said.
“The players have to do it alongside him and alongside the fans.
“Klopp himself cannot change the atmosphere [within the ground].
“The players have to play well and win well, that will change things.”
