El Desmarque are reporting that Liverpool are interested in Isco.

What's the story?

The Spain international is not having his best season so far for Real Madrid. He has started just six games in La Liga, and has just one goal in 17 appearances in all competitions.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

According to this report, though, Jurgen Klopp wants to sign the 27-year-old in a bid to add some creativity. It claims the Liverpool boss feels Isco can help unlock stubborn defences, and provide something different to his current midfield options. It further adds that Madrid president Florentino Perez is not willing to let the Spain international go for anything less than a fee of €70m (£59.1m).

Creative spark

Liverpool have been fantastic so far this campaign. They have won 21 out of 22 matches in the Premier League to date, and currently lead the table by a huge 13 points. They also have two games in hand, one of which comes against Wolves on Thursday night.

As such, you could argue whether a big-name player is needed, but Isco certainly has huge quality, hence why he has spent so long with the 13-time European champions - he is now into his seventh season at the club. In 294 games, he has 49 goals and 52 assists, and has a career average of 1.5 key passes and two dribbles per match according to WhoScored.

He has proven his worth for Spain as well, managing 12 goals in 38 caps. And quite impressively, he has a trophy cabinet to envy, too, with four Champions League winners medals to his name.

However, it is hard to see him fit into Liverpool's side. He is generally an attacking midfielder - that's where he has played the most of his games, according to Transfermarkt - and that is a formation that the Reds rarely use (the 4-3-3 being the most favoured).

Not only that, but the midfielders at Klopp's disposal are not exactly expected to contribute going forward. With one key pass per game, Fabinho leads the way amongst his midfield teammates, whilst with 1.6 dribbles per match, Naby Keita is at the top of that respective list - only one other man in the middle of the park has over one.

The former Malaga man clearly has the ability, but bringing him in would only unbalance Klopp's side. As such, this is one that is best avoided.
