No.3 proved a real problem area for the Reds against Arsenal on Sunday, despite coming away from the Emirates with a 4-3 win, as the Gunners targeted Alberto Moreno’s flank in the first half.
The Spaniard gave away a clumsy penalty which Theo Walcott missed, before being caught out of position as the England international made amends moments later.
Liverpool have been linked with a number of left-backs this summer, not least including Germany defender Jonas Hector and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
But according to The Telegraph, Klopp pulled the plug on a £10million deal for the latter, deeming the fee too excessive for a 19-year-old, and is unlikely to come good on interest in the former.
Instead, the German gaffer is looking to utilise James Milner on the left of defence whilst waiting for the return to fitness of Joe Gomez, who took up that role at the start of last season.
However, judging by Moreno’s performance on Sunday, it will be another tough season for the Reds’ porous backline should Milner and Gomez spend too long on the sidelines.
