Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Sadio Mane will miss Wednesday's match against West Ham due to injury - which will also likely make him unavailable for this weekend's match against Southampton.

What's the story?

The Senegal international was forced off the field of play against Wolves in the Reds' last Premier League match, and he did not feature against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup as such.

In his press conference prior to the clash against the Hammers, Klopp gave an update on his condition. He said: "Sadio will not be involved for West Ham and probably not for Southampton. After that he should be then fine.

"The week we have then after that is for him perfect to get back on track."

Curtis Jones' time to shine

There is no doubt that the Reds will miss Mane. He has been in fantastic form so far this campaign, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists. He has been recognised individually as well, winning the African Player of the Year award, whilst also finishing fourth in the Ballon d'Or rankings.

Although the Reds likely have enough quality to get the job done against the Irons, their match against Southampton could be more difficult considering the Saints have won seven and drawn two of their last 12 matches. However, Mane's injury may just give Curtis Jones the perfect chance to shine in his favourite position.

The 18-year-old has played in central midfield in both of his FA Cup appearances so far this term, and he has scored on both occasions. His preferred role, though, is on the left flank - both of his strikes came from that part of the pitch, and the vast majority of his performances for the U23s, where he has contributed directly to 12 goals in 12 matches, have come in that position. So far this term, Divock Origi or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have played on the left on the few occasions Mane has not been present, but neither of them are naturals in that role.

After having impressed so far, Jones should be given the opportunity to really stake his claim as an important squad member at Anfield. Even despite his tender age, he still has talent - it is time for Klopp to utilise that in the league rather than just the cups.

Meanwhile, one man will have enjoyed Dejan Lovren's poor display against Shrewsbury.
