Brazilian icon Ronaldinho has called on Jurgen Klopp to build his Liverpool team around in-form attacker Roberto Firmino.
The 24-year-old signed for the Reds from Hoffenheim over the summer in a deal that could eventually cost the club £29m, and despite a slow start to life at Anfield during Brendan Rodgers’ reign he has thrived under his new manager of late.
Goals against Arsenal and Norwich in recent weeks have seen Firmino nominated for the December Player of the Month award and appear to have made him Klopp’s first choice striker ahead of £32.5m signing Christian Benteke.
And Ronaldinho believes that the Anfield manager must make his compatriot the main man at the club and bring in players to get the best from him, even though the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge are in the Kop squad:
“He’s the player that I’m sure Klopp will build his new Liverpool team around.” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“Klopp is one of the best coaches in the world, he will know that Liverpool need better players, he will know that Firmino will need better players around him to get the most out of his game.
“I’m sure when he joined Liverpool, Klopp was promised he could bring in his own players, and with Firmino at the centre of the team, there’s no reason Liverpool cannot challenge once again.”
Firmino netted a stunning 23 goals and registered a further 21 assists in his last two seasons in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim.
