Klopp’s Liverpool transfer plans rocked as former club open talks for major target

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool transfer plans have been dealt a big blow, with reports from Bild claiming Borussia Dortmund have contacted Bayern Munich with a view to re-signing Mario Gotze this summer.

The German World Cup-winning playmaker starred at BVB under the guidance of the now Kop chief, playing a big role in their two Bundesliga successes in the early 2010s before making a controversial switch to the Allianz Arena following their loss to the Bavarians in the 2013 Champions League Final.

However, Gotze’s spell at Bayern, despite the trophies won, has not been the most fruitful, and the 23-year-old is currently being dropped to the bench with regularity by manager Pep Guardiola.

This, and that player’s admission that he’s been “texting” Klopp has fuelled speculation that the attacking midfielder is one of the Merseysiders’ major targets heading into the next window, but reports claim that Dortmund are keen.

It’s understood that the Signal Iduna Park side have already spoken to their major rivals about a deal, which could go ahead given that Gotze will enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season.

The player himself started his career at Dortmund, but is known to have a good working relationship with Klopp.
