La Liga giants to up interest in Liverpool ace

Daniel Agger (Liverpool)Barcelona believes that they can lure Daniel Agger away from Liverpool and could return with a January offer, according to reports from The Express.

The La Liga champions were heavily linked with a move for the Dane over the summer, as they lined up replacements for veteran centre-back Carles Puyol.

The Reds star is said to be one of their top targets, and somebody they believe can slot into their starting XI seamlessly.

Although Liverpool have insisted that he is not for sale, Barca are confident that the emergence of a number of defenders at the club may allow them to force through a deal.

Both Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori arrived on Merseyside on deadline day, to join Agger, Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure to battle for two starting berths.

Although the 28-year-old is now the club’s vice-captain, there are no guarantees that he can keep his spot in the first-team with competition so high.

Barca are set to monitor the situation, and will look to take any advantage of potential unrest with a bid this winter.

The Spaniards are further tempted by the fact that Agger will be free to play in the Champions League this season due to Liverpool’s failure to qualify for any European competition.

Liverpool fans, should your side battle to keep Daniel Agger? Or is it time to cash in?
