The 20-year-old winger has been one of the Reds’ key performers this season, with a recent break to recover from a demanding start to the campaign forcing his first ‘no show’ in the Premier League – against Sunderland.
Even though he’s, arguably, Rodgers’ key man in the absence of Daniel Strurridge, there have been rumours of a move to Real Madrid, with his current contract due to expire in 2016.
Liverpool have been working hard to tie Sterling down to fresh terms, but there have been delays due to the player’s concerns about his manager’s future.
But, the Merseysiders have moved to promise their starlet that Rodgers’ role at Anfield is not in doubt, according to a source:
“Raheem and Brendan are very close and there was a worry about the future of the manager.
“But Liverpool have given assurances and they insist that recent reports that they were considering his position are far from the truth and they are committed to him – which is what Raheem wanted to hear.”
Sterling made his Liverpool debut under Kenny Dalglish, but his transformation from a fledgling talent to one of Europe’s most highly-rated youngsters has occurred during Rodgers’ watch.
