The Slovakian international has found himself on the bench in recent months as veteran Jamie Carragher has relished his chance in the first team, but with the former England international retiring at the end of the season Skrtel wants to take his chance.
Skrtel has accepted that he has not been on top form this season and so understands Brendan Rodgers’ decision to drop him, but the 28 year old has vowed to force his way back into the starting XI.
Rodgers has been linked with a summer move for a number of top class central defenders including Swansea star Ashley Williams, a deal that would once again put Skrtel’s future in doubt.
“This is what happens in football and this time it was my turn,” he told his official website, martin-skrtel.com.
“I have to respect it and wait for my chance and I hope my chance will come before the end of the season.
“Those who know me know that I will fight for my place in the team.”
