Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has backed Luis Suarez to stay at Anfield this summer despite rumours he may leave for Champions League football.
The Uruguyan striker has been the star of the Liverpool side this season and is the favourite to lift the PFA Player of the Year award later this month.
Suarez has notched 22 league goals for the Merseyside club this season, leading major European clubs to show an interest in him.
Liverpool are not going to be in the Champions League next season and are facing an uphill battle to qualify for the Europa League, leaving one of the top striker in the world not playing in European competition.
The 26 year old reinvigorated rumours he may leave the club in the summer by stating that he wants to play in the Champions League but after only signing a new deal at Anfield in the summer, it would take a monumental bid to lure Liverpool into a sale.
“He (Suarez) is vital. He is one of the top players, not just in the Premier League, but in world football” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“We are desperate to keep him, I’m sure he will be staying, I think he loves it here and the fans love him.
“It would be a big surprise to me if he is not PFA Player of the Year. I think the Premier League has been good for him and he has been a star in the Premier League.”
