The Danish international has endured an extended absence from Brendan Rodgers’ side of late following injury problems and impressive form from some of his rivals.
Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho looked to be the Northern Irishman’s first choice trio as he opted for a 3-5-2 formation in recent weeks.
However, he altered to a more conventional four man defence on Saturday after their defeat to Arsenal in the previous tie.
Agger partnered Skrtel at the heart of the backline, and helped Liverpool to a clean sheet – their first lockout since early September.
Now he is back in the starting XI, the Anfield side’s vice captain has set his sites on maintaining his spot:
“I have been waiting for this chance and, as I have said before, you have to take it when you get it,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“I feel I have got the right to play, and of course I would have liked it to have come earlier. But in the end it is the coach who decides.”
Agger went on to say that he was happy with his own, and the team’s, performance against Fulham:
“We didn’t feel threatened, therefore it was just a matter of keeping our concentration and staying focused on what happens and not watch too much football.
“But we are happy that we had a clean sheet and scored some goals.”
Does Daniel Agger deserve to be a starter at Liverpool? And who should he play alongside?
