Liverpool ace won’t rule out Spain move

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger

Representatives of Daniel Agger have indicated the defender would still be open to a potential move to Barcelona, according to the Daily Mail.

The Catalan giants are in the market for a new centre back, and have identified Liverpool’s Agger and Chelsea’s David Luiz as their prime targets.

Barcelona have been told the Dane would be open to a move to the Nou Camp if the club can match his release clause at Anfield, despite it being announced over the weekend that the defender had been promoted to vice-captain at the club.

Liverpool have so far denied that Barcelona have made any official offer, although it is understood the Spanish Champions have in fact launched an offer of £15million which was rejected.

Chelsea’s Luiz is understood to be the club’s number one target, although attentions may be turned to Agger after today, with the Brazilian set to hold talks with Jose Mourinho over his Chelsea future.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is adamant the club will retain the services of Agger, even if Barcelona do launch an official bid.

Although the news he may be willing to leave Anfield will be a bitter blow to Rodgers, who is already attempting to keep star striker Luis Suarez at the club.

Agger signed a new contract last season but his agent, Per Steffensen said: “We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.

“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
