Liverpool’s Adam Lallana has entered the last six months of his contract following the turn of the new year.
2020 is shaping up to be a landmark year in Liverpool’s history with a Premier League title firmly in sight, but will Lallana be there to collect a winner’s medal come May?
Time will tell but this represents the final month in which the Reds can attract a fee for his services, though The Athletic’s James Pearce suggested he will leave at the end of the season during a Q&A earlier in December.
Foreign clubs will also be able to approach him regarding a pre-contract agreement – such as the one Aaron Ramsey signed with Juventus last year – ahead of a summer switch.
Football clubs are ultimately businesses and the prospect of losing any player for free is unlikely to be an enthralling one for Michael Edwards.
With Lallana’s contract situation in mind, Liverpool supporters have been discussing whether they believe the club should cash in this month or keep him to help with the push for the Premier League title.
These fans have taken a cut-throat stance and urged the club to sell the 31-year-old.
Sell him ..

And this supporter echoed a similar sentiment, suggesting his injury problems are more effort than they’re worth.
Keeps getting little niggling injuries, just has he’s getting minutes in the team. Time to move him on!

However, not everyone was advocating a mid-season sale.
Through a mixture of squad necessity and a willingness to see the former Southampton ace clinch a winners medal, these fans have suggested he should be kept until the end of the season.
We’d be mad to let him go before the summer. Been excellent when used this year and gives the first XI a rest. Essential for cover and variety

We need him out this season and he really deserves to finish in style, even though he leaves for free in the end

Crazy to sell him in January 🤔 🤔
Why would we weaken our squad in the middle of the season???
Let him leave for free in May with a big thank you 👍🏻

In other news, a Sky Sports journalist has indicated what Liverpool’s strategy will be during the January window…
