Liverpool and Arsenal’s transfer hopes have been dealt a blow after target Gelson Martins has agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid according to AS.
The 23-year-old winger has been on the books of Sporting Lisbon since he was a schoolboy and made 31 appearances for the Portuguese club last season, scoring eight goals and assisting eight more.
Martins was one of the players who wanted to leave the club this summer after they failed to qualify for the Champions League and fans stormed the training ground and attacked players.

Arsenal and Liverpool were interested in the Portuguese World Cup player but now it looks like he is set to move to Atletico Madrid.
Martins would have been a fantastic addition for both Liverpool and Arsenal and it’s a shame we won’t be able to see him in the Premier League next season.
In truth it’s not a huge loss as both Arsenal and Liverpool’s strengths lie in flair attacking players and they should focus first on sorting issues in defence.
