As reported by the Daily Express, both Liverpool and West Ham United are interested in the services of Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel this coming January.
With both clubs expected to do business in the upcoming window, the latest target attracting interest from the Reds and the Hammers is French attacker Defrel.
The Express report that both clubs have scouted the Sassuolo man already and that Slaven Bilic is preparing a bid for the striker to turn around the Irons’ ailing season.
With his contract not running out until 2020, it could take up to £20m to convince the Serie A club to sell a player who has found a rich vein of form this season.
Defrel has impressed for Sassuolo this season both domestically and in Europe, scoring 8 goals in all competitions. That’s already bested his total of 2015/16 which saw him net 7 for the Italians.
It’s that form that’s alerted clubs and the busy forward could provide a threat that West Ham simply don’t have in attacking areas right now.
For Liverpool, Defrel would provide competition to their in-form stars. As we’ve discussed already recently, they’re in the market for a striker.
The Frenchman doesn’t have the most amazing scoring record but Serie A is a tough league to ply your trade in as a striker and a move to the more open Premier League could be just what he needs to fulfil his potential.
