Liverpool back in for long-term target & Gerrard replacement

Liverpool are in talks with Borussia Dortmund for long-term target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds tracked the Armenia international in the summer of 2013, but ultimately failed to lure him to England from Shakhtar Donetsk as he picked the German giants instead.

And now with captain Steven Gerrard set to leave Anfield to sign for MLS champions LA Galaxy at the end of the season, Brendan Rodgers is desperate to get Mkhitaryan in as a replacement.

Reports reveal that Liverpool are indeed talking over a deal with BVB, who are currently just outside of the Bundesliga’s relegation zone after a woeful season so far.

The 25-year-old’s agent, Mino Raiola, has also hinted in recent times that his client will be leaving Dortmund at the end of the campaign after a largely forgettable spell in German football despite an initially bright start.

Mkhitaryan cost Jurgen Klopp’s side £24m just under 18 months ago.
