Liverpool Balotelli replacement to win battle at Anfield? Stats say he might

It’s somewhat fashionable to pick up whatever stick is closest to hand to beat Mario Balotelli… so we won’t buck the trend and will have another little pop at the Italian ahead of tonight’s clash with Burnley. The 24-year-old striker has been a major disappointment since his arrival at Anfield last summer – he has only one Premier League goal to his name – and despite his mini revival in recent weeks, there doesn’t seem to be a clear way back for ‘Super Mario’ at Liverpool given how clearly unsuited he is to Brendan Rodgers’ set-up.

This gives the Anfield game against Burnley in a few hours added significance, with the Clarets’ star forward Danny Ings in line to replace him on Merseyside this summer. The Englishman was the subject of a late offer from Liverpool during the last transfer window, and reports have since claimed that he is indeed keen on a free (well, compensation payment) switch to join Rodgers’ side when his contract expires in a few months’ time. He’ll have a point to prove on the banks of the Mersey, then and we think he could make his potential suitors sit up and take notice, given that his stats are so much more impressive than Mario’s…

Per-90-minutes he averages more shots, more key passes, more assists and more take-ons… that’s a lot MORE of all the things that matter for an attacker!
