Liverpool beat Chelsea in star midfielder hunt… deal agreed

Liverpool have agreed a £4.3m deal with Red Star Belgrade for teenage midfielder Marko Grujic, according to reports from Mondo.

The 19-year-old Serbia U-21 international has emerged as one of the finest young players in his position in Europe over the course of the past year and has been a mainstay in his club’s starting XI despite his age this season.

Recent reports from the Liverpool Echo have claimed that the club are extremely interested in the emerging starlet, while the player himself has also revealed that “talks” have taken place, and now it’s suggested that the Merseysiders have secured a move.

It’s understood that Liverpool will pay £4.3m for the youngster in January, but will immediately loan him back to Red Star for the remainder of 2015/16 to help the club in their SuperLiga campaign.

Chelsea have also been heavily linked with the teenage prospect of late.

Grujic stands at 6ft. 3” and has already been dubbed the ‘new Nemanja Matic’ thanks to his power, discipline and favoured central midfield role.
