Brendan Rodgers has warned Luis Suarez that he may not find the same “love” that Liverpool and their fans have for him at any other club.
The Uruguayan striker has once again been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent days, with reports suggesting that Real Madrid are pondering a £70m summer swoop.
Suarez publicly agitated for a switch to the Bernabeu last year, and was believed to have also been tempted by Arsenal, after growing frustrated at media treatment and a lack of Champions League football on Merseyside.
But midway through this season – in which he has hit 30 goals to leave the Reds top of the table with just two games to go – the 27-year-old penned a new mega money contract.
With top-level European football guaranteed for 2014/15, Rodgers believes that the affection he gets from Liverpool as a whole will be enough to ensure that he stays:
“Luis understands he may not get the same love he does at Liverpool from anywhere else,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“From the first year, he knew I would shape the team around his qualities. He loves the city and the supporters.
“Also, guys like Steven Gerrard talked to him telling him there was an opportunity to be a legend at the club.”
