Liverpool boss ‘confident’ of Suarez stay

Brendan Rodgers says that he has spoken to Luis Suarez and is “confident” that the striker will be staying at Liverpool this summer.

The Uruguayan ace has once again found his name linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona is recent days after establishing himself as the Premier League’s top performer last term.

Suarez was on the verge of leaving Anfield last year after agitating for a transfer, but has since penned a mega money contract and been the focal point of Liverpool’s unexpected title push – which eventually yielded Champions League qualification.

However with rumours circulating, some have suggested that the 31-goal ace may well call time on his spell on Merseyside in the coming months.

But Rodgers says he has spoken to his talismanic attacker, and that the saga of summer 2013 will not be repeated this time around:

“The last conversation I had with Luis we spoke a lot and I know he is very happy here,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“He has had a marvellous season,. He has picked up all the awards – ones that were very important to him from his peers.

“He’s contributed massively to our success this season and he is happy in the Premier League.

“He has turned a corner in terms of how he’s perceived in England.

“Of course in football you can’t promise anything but I am confident Luis will be a big part of the future here.”
