Liverpool boss cools title talk once again

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that there has been no title talk around the club this week, and that their focus is purely on beating Cardiff this weekend.

The Reds kept up their shock run towards a first ever Premier League crown by beating bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out, closing the gap between themselves and leaders Chelsea to four points.

Although the deficit is relatively large at this end of the season, Rodgers’ men have a game in hand on the Blues and are due to host them at Anfield – which could give them a good chance of moving to the summit in the coming weeks.

However, despite widespread talk that his side can claim the title and captain Steven Gerrard’s admission that they are in the race, the Northern Irishman maintains that there has been no such discussion in his ranks this week:

“The focus is purely on Cardiff City. We had a wonderful result and performance at Old Trafford, like you say, but there hasn’t been any talk of any title.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“The run-in for us is the next game, we’ve got tough games all the way through. We’ve got a very tough game against Cardiff.

“We’ve had some good results at home this season against some of the top teams but we know it’s going to be a tough game and we’ll speak about the run-in at the end of the season.”
