Liverpool boss keen on deal for Real Madrid outcast

Liverpool are interested in out-of-favour Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, with Jurgen Klopp a big fan of the Spaniard, according to reports from Corriere dello Sport.

The Reds’ German boss looks set for a huge summer on Merseyside after going through the winter transfer window without making any notable additions to the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers.

Steven Caulker was snapped up on loan – albeit he looks likely to return to QPR in a few months’ time with only a handful of outings to his name – and Marko Grujic was signed with a view to getting him on board for 2016/17 – he’s back at Red Star Belgrade for the remainder of the campaign – while Alex Teixeira’s signature evaded the Merseysiders.

But reports claim that Klopp is looking to add to a deal for Joel Matip – who will join the club from Schalke on a free transfer – with a move for Vazquez.

The 24-year-old has played only 806 minutes of league football for Real this season, but he has managed one goal and six assists in that time.

Vazquez shone on loan at Espanyol last term, where it’s thought he caught Klopp’s eye, and played for Los Blancos’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams prior to that.
