Liverpool Brendan Rodgers has confessed that he is looking to add the right players to his squad next month amid speculation that Petr Cech and Fernando Torres are targets.
The Chelsea duo – albeit the latter is on loan at AC Milan – are rumoured to be on the Reds’ agenda, with their Northern Irish boss desperate to address the below par start to the season on Merseyside.
Liverpool currently sit in 10th spot, nine points off fourth placed West Ham, and have struggled to replicate the sort of form that very nearly brought them a first ever Premier League title last season.
And when quizzed on the possibility of new players coming to Anfield next month, Rodgers said:
“If there is a possibility that we can strengthen in January, we will look at that,” he is quoted by BBC Sport.
“There will always be speculation, but I won’t comment on any players.”
The major areas of concern for Rodgers are understood to be a new goalkeeper and a striker, with Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones having struggled between the sticks, while the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have failed to score the goals taken out of the team by the absence of Daniel Sturridge.
