Liverpool boss pulled plug on Teixeira deal because of summer plans

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp pulled the plug on a big money move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira in a bid to maximise his transfer budget for the looming transfer window, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The Reds chased the free-scoring Brazilian attacking midfielder for much of the last two weeks, but their pursuit ended in disappointment as the Ukrainian club held out for a big fee.

It’s understood that they wanted £38m to part with the 26-year-old, but reports claim that Klopp elected to back off so his own summer plans would not take a hit.

Liverpool were ready to meet Teixeira’s price-tag and back their manager, but the 48-year-old has ideas in mind for the next window, with players he wants potentially available.

A move for the 22 goals in 15 league games attacker would have surely dented his budget for the rest of the year.
