Liverpool boss wants summer freebie to replace ageing star

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a free move for Marseille’s Rod Fanni to replace veteran defender Kolo Toure, according to reports from Metro.

The 33-year-old l’OM ace is due to be a free agent in a few months’ time and it’s understood that the Ligue 1 side are ready to let him leave when his deal expires.

Although by no means a long-term solution for the Reds, Fanni could be used as a replacement for ageing defender Toure, who looks set to be released by the Kop side when his contract runs down at the end of the campaign.

The Ivorian is now 34, and has looked off the pace when called upon in recent weeks.

Reports suggest that Fanni – who can also play as a right-back – is seen as a potential replacement option, with his free status tempting as funds can be shifted elsewhere to draft in other targets.

The Marseille ace has made 24 appearances this season, scoring one goal.
