Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he won’t be rushing any of his youth players into the senior squad despite their latest victory.
His side managed to overcome Exeter 3-0 in their FA Cup third-round replay, with Klopp only naming three experience senior players in his starting XI.
Joe Allen opened the scoring for the Reds while Sheyi Ojo and Joao Carlos Teixeira both netted their first senior goals for the team.
Despite the performance, Klopp admitted that many of his players that put on fine displays still have a lot to learn before they can feature for the senior side on a regular basis.
“It is a long way for these young boys but they showed what they are already able to do and what they have to learn,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“If everyone stays cool… it is not protecting them but giving the lads time to develop. Tonight was a good moment, there were a few things which were impressive but a lot of things to learn.
“The target at the end of the road has to be [playing for] Liverpool FC in the Premier League and for this you have to be ready. We cannot bring them all in every week in the Premier League.”
Aside from the result, another boost for his side was Jon Flanagan’s long-awaiting return after being sidelined for 619 days due to a serious knee injury picked up back in the 2013/14 campaign.
The Reds will travel to Norwich City in the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures this weekend as they look to put their 1-0 lost to Manchester United behind them and push for a top four finish.
