The Premier League side are interested in hijacking Torino’s move for the 22-year-old, and could start a bidding war between the two sides.
Torino had agreed terms with Ghoulam, but news of Liverpool’s interest has stalled the potential deal. The Reds could be in a strong negotiating position, with Torino unhappy that the deal has hit a stumbling block.
Ghoulam has spent his entire career with Saint-Etienne, after coming through the club’s youth academy. After his strong performances this season, where he played in 26 Ligue 1 matches, the 22-year-old earned his first cap for Algeria, and has played three times for the nation since.
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defence this summer, after already bringing in Kolo Toure on a free transfer. With Jamie Carragher retiring, and the futures of Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel in doubt, Brendan Rodgers could make Ghoulam his fifth signing of the transfer window.
Ghoulam could be playing in the World Cup next summer, after helping Algeria top their qualifying group, and reach a place in the final CAF Qualifying Rounds.
If a deal happens with the Reds soon, he could also be playing in their opening match of the new Premier League season, against Stoke on August 17th.
Would Ghoulam be a good signing? Do Liverpool need more youth?
