Liverpool are considering a summer move for Sporting Lisbon’s Rui Patricio as Brendan Rodgers plots to provide quality competition for Simon Mignolet, according to reports from The Metro.
The Belgian stopper has endured a difficult 2014/15 campaign, in which he was bombed out of the Reds’ first XI over the winter period on the back of some shocking showings.
Stand-in Brad Jones suffered an injury, though, which allowed Mignolet to step back in quickly, and the ex-Sunderland man has impressed so far since the turn of the year.
However, with the Australian back-up man likely to be released when his contract expires in a few months’ time, Rodgers is keen to add some proven quality to his ranks, with Rui Patricio an option.
The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the Sporting team for some time and represented Portugal at last summer’s World Cup.
