Liverpool clear to snap up top quality playmaker for just £12.9m

Liverpool appear to be in the clear to land Mateo Kovacic for just £12.9m this summer, with reports from Gazetta dello Sport claiming that Inter Milan are ready to accept a cut-price offer to fund a move for Yaya Toure.

The Reds are believed to have outlined the Croatia international as a priority target as they look to replace Steven Gerrard – the former England captain is due to join La Galaxy.

Kovacic, 21, has impressed when given the opportunity in the Inter side this term, but with manager Roberto Mancini desperate to land Toure, he could be axed to free up funds and space.

Inter are reportedly willing to accept as little as £12.9m for the pass-master, which will surely entice Liverpool following a recent bid worth in the region of £7.2m.

Kovacic could be the latest cut-price star the Merseysiders sign from Inter, with Philippe Coutinho having switched from the San Siro to Anfield in January 2013.
