Malaga midfielder Manuel IturraLiverpool are close to agreeing a deal with Malaga midfielder Manuel Iturra, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Reds have been tracking the Chilean star, who is pout of contract this summer, for some time as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to step up his transfer plans in a bid to get the Merseysiders back into the Premier League’s top four.

Iturra has been earning much praise for his performances this season, with some outstanding displays helping the Spaniards both domestically and in the Champions League.

Reports suggest that negotiations between the player and the club advanced, and that a deal could be concluded ahead of the off-season.

Despite having a wealth of attacking midfield options at his disposal, Rodgers is keen to add Iturra to his ranks in a bid to get the very best out of star attackers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The 28-year-old, who only signed for Malaga at the start of the season, spent most of his career in his homeland with Universidad Chile, before moving to Portugal in 2011.

A solid spell with Uniao Leiria tempted Murcia to take him on loan, before he was later released by his parent club.

Malaga brought him in at the start of the season to build up their squad following some high profile departures, where he has impressed.
