Liverpool close in on French World Cup star

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Loic Remy, with reports from Sky Sports indicating that an £8.5m fee has been agreed with QPR.

The French striker as emerged as one of the Reds’ top targets in recent weeks, with Brendan Rodgers keen to bring in a new forward to replace the departed Luis Suarez.

Remy netted 14 goals on loan at Newcastle last term, and is seen as a good man to support Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert at Anfield.

Arsenal and Tottenham were both in for the 27-year-old, but the north London duo have pulled out of the running due to the star’s wage demands and desire for Champions League football respectively.

Liverpool are understood to have triggered the clause in his contract – £8.5m for top four clubs – and the player himself is set to travel to Merseyside to finalise personal terms.

Remy will be the fourth name to arrive at the club this summer, following the signings of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.
