Liverpool close in on Valencia defender

Aly Cissokho

The Daily Star has announced that Liverpool are closing in on signing Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho on a one-year loan deal.

This may well develop in to a permanent move should the club decide they wish to sign the full-back in 12 months time. Rodgers has apparently been keen to add depth in the full back role in order to instil more competition for Jose Enrique’s first-team place.

The former Lyon player only signed for Valencia last season, however obviously feels ready to move on to the Premier League

However, this will be another setback for Paolo Di Canio’s Sunderland squad who were also rumoured to be interested in acquiring the Valencia player, having made an enquiry last month.

This missed opportunity is just another in a line of transfers which have slipped by in recent weeks, after failing to secure the signature of Danny Rose on another loan deal.

Moreover, the deal involving Argentine full-back Gino Peruzzi collapsed after a medical revealed damaged knee ligaments, rendering the deal impossible.
