Liverpool closing in on cut-price strike solution

Liverpool are closing in on an £8m January deal for Paris Saint-German forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to reports from The Metro.

The Argentine international is widely expected to leave the Parc des Prince this month after falling out of favour with manager Laurent Blanc and has been on the Reds’ radar for some time.

Italian giants Inter Milan have also been linked with Lavezzi, but their moves for Xherdan Shaqiri and Lukas Podolski look to have reduced the chances of a swoop for another attacking player, leaving the door ajar for Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers is understood to be looking at attacking reinforcements this month, with his current crop of strikers – Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge – having notched just two Premier League goals between them after 21 games, albeit the latter has been injured since August.

Lavezzi is thought to be valued at around £8m by PSG, with the Ligue 1 side having slashed his price-tag since the summer.
