Liverpool closing in on former Barcelona ace

Liverpool are close to completing a deal for long-term target Seydou Keita, according to talkSPORT.

The 34-year-old midfielder turned down a move to Anfield in January in favour of a six-month contract in La Liga with Valencia.

But it is believed that the Mali international has rejected a contract extension at the Mestalla and is now tempted to move to Liverpool now that they will be in the Champions League next season.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League whilst also maintaining a serious challenge for the Premier League title next term.

And he sees the former Barcelona midfielder as the perfect man to instil a bit of experience in his squad, especially with the likes of youngsters Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling embarking on their first Champions League campaigns.
