Liverpool consider shock Agger swap deal

Liverpool are considering a shock swap deal involving Daniel Agger and Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler, according to reports from The Metro.

The central defender has been attracting interest from the Italian side for some time, with Rafael Benitez – the man who brought the Dane to Anfield – a big admirer of his abilities.

Despite the Reds having used their vice-captain sparingly this term, they have always remained adamant that he will not be sold.

However, with injuries having ravaged Brendan Rodgers’ midfield, he is said to be open to a swap deal if Inler is involved.

The Swiss enforcer has long been thought of as one of Serie A’s finest talents, and has been a key part of the Naples side’s first-team as they have risen from a midtable outfit to genuine title challengers over the course of the past few seasons.

Even though he is now 29, Rodgers sees him as a top quality addition, and the sort of player who may be able to keep the Merseysiders’ push for a top four finish on track.

Agger could be sacrificed, with Liverpool possessing a wealth of centre-backs, including Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel, Martin Kelly and Tiago Ilori – although the latter is away from the club on loan.
