The Sunday Express are reporting that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is contemplating making a surprise bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.
The 25-year-old forward found the net an impressive 18 times for QPR last season, despite the fact that the Rs were ultimately relegated back to the Championship.
And the Reds are now understood to be interested in Austin, although the Anfield club may sound out the possibility of recruiting their preferred transfer targets first before submitting a concrete bid for the player.
Liverpool have already sealed the transfer of Danny Ings from Burnley – who were relegated along with QPR last season – with a fee for the player yet to have been agreed by the two parties.
Austin is a man in high demand; not only has new Newcastle boss Steve McClaren made him a transfer target, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was also believed to have been impressed with the striker when his side faced QPR in the league last season.
