Liverpool considering shock move for rival star

Chelsea forward Juan Mata

The Daily Mirror are reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea attacker Juan Mata.

The Reds are reportedly prepared to pay up to £30million for Chelsea’s 2012/13 player of the year.

The Spaniard has played just once for Chelsea this season, and he even spent the entire 90minutes against Manchester United on the bench, as reports suggested he was not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at Chelsea. And after adding Willian to their squad that includes Andre Schurrle, Oscar, Hazard, and Kevin De Bruyne, more speculation is surrounding Mata’s future.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Mata is keen to play regular first team football, and will not be keen on spending the run up to the tournament on the bench under Jose Mourinho. Mata, along with Fernando Torres, was left out of Spain’s recent squad for this month’s international matches.

However, Chelsea have shown no intention to sell Mata, who was once linked with the Reds during his time at Valencia. But the Mirror are reporting that the Reds are interested in bidding £30million for the Spanish attacker, instead of submitting a loan deal, which would suit the Blues.

With the clock ticking, Liverpool would have to act quickly if they were to sign Mata, if Chelsea were to accept an offer.

Would Mata leave Chelsea? How have fans from both teams reacted to the rumours?
