Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could look to La Liga this January as he quests to keep his side’s top four charge on track with loan moves for Denis Cheryshev and Martin Montoya, according to reports from The Mirror.
The Reds were the main side to profit from a weekend of mixed results, with the Merseysiders’ narrow home win over Swansea having moved them just six points off leaders Manchester City and Leicester despite their stuttering start to the season.
Klopp arrived at Anfield outside of the transfer window, thus meaning he has been unable to add his own players to the squad inherited from Brendan Rodgers, but with January now only a month away he’ll soon have the opportunity to do so.
And reports claim that both Cheryshev and Montoya are options open to the German.
The former was a Liverpool target for much of the summer, but eventually elected to stay at Real Madrid.
He has, however, made only two substitute appearances in league action and is understood to be eager to play regularly for the remainder of the season in a bid to keep himself in the Russian squad going into EURO 2016.
Montoya is a longer-term target for the club, who have been aligned with him for much of the past few years.
The Spaniard is currently on loan at Inter Milan, yet there are suggestions the Italians will cut this stay short following an uneventful start to his time at the San Siro.
Barcelona are unlikely to take him back, which could make him an option for Klopp who has little in the way of cover for Nathaniel Clyne at right-back.
