Liverpool could get loanee back in 2016

Liverpool could end up getting Tiago Ilori back from Aston Villa in 2016 with his future in the Midlands far from clear, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

The Portuguese centre-back joined the Villans on loan over the summer, but has endured a woeful spell with his new side so far.

Ilori is yet to make a first-team appearance for Villa, albeit an ankle injury has been a factor, and with Tim Sherwood having left, his status under new boss Remi Garde remains unclear.

Should the Frenchman not take a shine to the 22-year-old he may end up back at Anfield next year, even though the relegation strugglers have an option to make his stay permanent for between £6m and £9m – dependent on appearances – as a part of the initial £1m agreement.

As things stand, Ilori’s chances of getting ahead of other Villa players in his favoured centre-back role appear slim.

The youngster remains highly-rated among Liverpool fans, who called for him to be given a chance upon his return from a fine U-21 European Championship campaign over the summer – Portugal finished as runners-up.
