Liverpool have no interest in signing Besiktas defender and World Cup star Domagoj Vida or any other centre-back according to The Liverpool Echo.
The 29-year-old centre-back only signed for Besiktas in January but has struggled to settle at the Turkish club.
The Croatian defender impressed with his World Cup performances, scoring Croatia’s second goal against Russia in the Quarter Finals as they went on to reach the final.
Liverpool had been linked with him earlier in the transfer window as a potential partner for Virgil Van Dijk, but according to the report, Jurgen Klopp is not interested in signing Vida and isn’t looking for a new centre-back this summer.
It’s a bold call from manager Jurgen Klopp to stick with the defenders he’s already got on his books at Liverpool, as it’s fair to say some have been far from convincing.
Van Dijk certainly helped solidify the back line, but his partner Dejan Lovren, although his performances did improve, always looks on the verge of a howler.
Joel Matip is set to miss the start of the season but Klopp is clearly happy with his lot, and Lovren should look to reward his manager with the confidence he has shown in the Croatian defender.
