After Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Harry Kane will be out of action until March, could Jurgen Klopp be about to receive a shock transfer enquiry for Daniel Sturridge?

What’s the word?

Kane is instrumental to Spurs’ season, with the England captain responsible for 30% of the Lilywhites goals so far – only Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is relied on as much by his side.

The 25-year-old, though, limped off the Wembley pitch on Sunday when his side lost 1-0 to Manchester United and the club later confirmed he had suffered another ankle injury.

Tottenham will now be without their leading man until he returns to training in March, leaving Mauricio Pochettino searching for goals as Heung-Min Son is also away on international duty.

Liverpool could, therefore, see a surprise enquiry come their way regarding Sturridge, as Pochettino will need an out-and-out striker for his club’s upcoming tests with Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and possibly Arsenal in the Premier League depending on how soon Kane recovers.

FFC's James Jones has identified the one thing that could cost Liverpool the title. Find out what it is in the video below...

Why would Klopp help a title rival?

Tottenham’s chances of competing for the top-flight crown are very slim, although they are third after 22 games, with the Lilywhites nine points adrift of Liverpool and five down on Manchester City.

Sturridge’s exit also makes a great deal of sense for the Merseyside club, as the former Chelsea hitman is out of contract at Anfield in the summer and can already negotiate a pre-contract with sides from abroad while the Reds contemplate offering the 29-year-old a new deal.

Major League Soccer franchise New York City FC have already been touted as throwing their hat in the ring for the 26-cap former England international, with the American outfit looking to replace David Villa after the Spanish legend moved to Japan.

Rather than losing a fringe player for nothing, cashing in on Tottenham’s desperation may be the best play for Liverpool. After all, Sturridge has started just five times this season and the £13.5million-rated forward last scored in September.
